Dear Ashley and Jacob,
You two are the reason I enjoy doing wedding florals so much. Lots of people think flowers are frivolous but you and I know they speak volumes. Thank you so much for trusting me with this part of your beautiful day.
When I met with this couple more than a year before their wedding, I knew immediately how much I wanted to work with them. Their style mirrored mine and they talked about colors and textures but gave me free rein to create their vision. I take lots of notes when I consult with a couple, jotting down random things they say, certain adjectives about their wedding, favorite flowers. In our first conversation Ashley mentioned that Big Bluestem grass was important to them (maybe a class in college?), and other local prairie flowers and grasses.
As I made my flower list I knew I wanted to find Big Bluestem for Ashley’s bouquet, so I contacted our local Ag Extension Agent, Brian Rees, to help me. By the next day, I had a cattle feed sack full of grass six feet tall! Be careful what you ask for!
The bouquet turned out incredibly beautiful with colors that coordinated with their choices and the amazing prairie fall day. When I showed the bouquet to Ashley and Jacob with the stems of Big Bluestem they both teared up. I have never been so moved by someone’s reaction to my floral work. It makes all the hard days, long evenings and anxiety of wedding work worth it.
Here’s to many more beautiful prairie sunsets for Ashley and Jacob!
